Why Sidemount?

As the name suggests, sidemount takes a cylinder that would be on your back, and straps it to your side, the immediate advantages?

  • Your most flexible body part, your back, no longer has rigid metal strapped to it so it can bend again!  Making diving exceptionally comfortable.
  • You can don and doff the tank(s) in the water.  No more walking to the dive site in full, heavy gear under the blazing sun!  Put the BCD on (without tanks), walk into the water, clip the tanks on - ready to go, comfort, ease and simplicity.
  • The added safety factor of a full-sized, second cylinder is enormous, think a pony is the answer?  Think again.  If your on a two tank trip; why leave what could be a redundant air source on the surface.  You can now take it with you.
  • Travel diving is easy.  Take a lightweight sidemount rig and that's it!  Resorts all provide rental cylinders so strap those on, use their regulators or take your own and enjoy a comfortable dive with an unsurpassed safety margin and spend much, much more time diving - your dollars spent per minute diving is greatly reduced as a result.
  • Easy, excellent trim and buoyancy control - great for underwater photographers.
Sidemount Training

I currently use the Stealth 2.0 system by xDeep.  Having used several other sidemount systems I found the Stealth 2.0 suited myself and my students the best.  My favorite regulators are the ScubaPro MK25 DIN first stage with the S600 as the second stage.  Equipment packages are available.  The equipment you use will also be available for purchase after your course at a reduced rate.
Of course if you already have your own equipment we can conduct any of the sidemount training using it providing it is suitable.

Once you are sidemount certified any future specialty training courses can be conducted in the sidemount configuration.  I am happy to discuss your options with you.
